New Alaska Licensure for Associate Counselors Begins July 1
Effective July 1, 2025, Alaska House Bill 126 allows the State of Alaska’s Board of Professional Counselors to license Associate Counselors in addition to Professional Counselors. This bill also sets the criteria for Associate Counselor licensure and supervisor certification.
At this time, the board hasn’t specified when the new license for Associate Counselors will be available. Once licenses are issued by the state, Licensed Associate Counselors employed by a Premera-contracted provider must be credentialed and added to the contract when obtaining their license. Independent Licensed Associate Counselors who want to contract with Premera will need to complete a credentialing application and request a contract when obtaining their state license.
Detailed provider credentialing information can be found on our Join Our Network webpage. Visit the State of Alaska Professional Licensing webpage for the latest updates on license availability.
