Know Where to Go for Care

We reach out to Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alaska members who visit the emergency room (ER) more than twice a year to help them understand other care options.

Why it Matters

Provider offices are often the best choice for non-emergent care. This supports better health outcomes and reduces unnecessary ER visits. When a provider isn’t available, Premera members can use 24/7 nurse lines, telehealth, or urgent care.

How to Support

You play an important role in helping patients choose what’s best for their needs:

• Use your knowledge of patients’ medical history to guide the right care.
• Prepare for some patients to visit your office instead of the ER.
• Reassure patients that your office can help with non‑emergent care.
• Share appointment availability and services to build confidence in clinic‑based care.
