Blue Cross and Blue Shield Federal Employee Program 2024 Updates

Starting in 2024, members of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield (BCBS) Federal Employee Program (FEP) can anticipate the following benefit changes:

Standard Option Plans

  • Prior authorization will be required for assisted reproductive technology procedures and services for individuals with infertility.

Standard Option and Basic Option Plans

  • Prior authorization will be required for certain genetic tests.
  • Prior authorization will be required to receive coverage for hearing aids.

Standard Option, Basic Option and FEP Blue Focus Plans

  • Prior authorization will be required for certain high-cost drugs obtained outside of the pharmacy setting (See BCBS FEP Blue High-Cost Drugs for a list of these drugs).
  • Prior authorization will be required for fertility treatment for artificial insemination procedures for individuals meeting the definition of infertility.
  • Genetic testing may be covered for individuals who may be at high-risk for certain conditions.
