Air Ambulance Patient Transportation

07/08/2024

In certain situations, air ambulance transportation is critical when other forms of medical transport aren’t available or not an option.

To ensure that air ambulance service is available and cost effective for your patients, please review the Premera Ambulance and Medical Transport Services policy,10.01.512. The policy outlines the situations when air ambulance use is appropriate.

To help your patients save costs, remember to:

  • Review the policy to make certain the use of air ambulance is appropriate.
  • Make sure the receiving facility is the nearest medical facility equipped to treat the patient.
  • Use in-network air ambulance providers. Premera has a robust air ambulance network in Alaska to serve our members. They’ve been selected for their high-quality care, and patient friendly approach. They’re also less costly for our members. LifeMed is available statewide and Airlift Northwest is available in Southeast Alaska.
