Heads Up: Suitcase Logo Being Removed from BlueCard Member ID Cards
June 4, 2026
As part of an industry-wide update to Blue Cross and Blue Shield ID cards, the suitcase logo — historically used to indicate BlueCard® program participation — will no longer appear on some member ID cards. Instead, cards will display the applicable product identifier, such as PPO, without the suitcase symbol.
Instead of a suitcase logo like this:
You’ll start seeing only a plan listed, such as PPO, without the suitcase logo, like this example:
What this means for providers
- You may begin seeing ID cards for BlueCard members that don’t include the suitcase icon.
- This change doesn’t impact member benefits or network access.
- The transition is happening in phases as members renew, so you may continue to see a mix of cards — with and without the suitcase logo — during the rollout.
What to do
There are no changes to your current workflows. Providers should continue to :
- Verify eligibility and benefits by signing in to Availity
- Review the member’s ID card for plan and network information
- Follow normal BlueCard procedures when applicable
