New Breast Exam Benefit

January 6, 2025

New coverage will be in place for breast health examinations in Alaska. Alaska state mandate SB-134 requires that effective December 1, 2024, or as groups renew, a health plan carrier may not impose cost sharing for supplemental or diagnostic breast examinations.

For members on qualified high-deductible health plans, these supplemental and diagnostic services will be covered pre-deductible at zero cost share starting December 1, 2024, thanks to new guidance from the IRS. This changes previous information we shared in a November 2024 Provider News article stating members on qualified high-deductible health plans were subject to the minimum IRS deductible, then 0% coinsurance.
